Chilean utility Colbun SA has inked two power purchase agreements (PPAs) with water solutions company Aguas Pacifico SpA, ensuring the provision of 100% renewable energy to a seawater desalination plant in Quintero Bay, Valparaiso.
Aguas Pacifico is currently constructing the desalination facility, with Colbun set to deliver up to 280 GWh of certified renewable electricity annually.
The first PPA covers the power supply for the desalination plant and marine works, while the second contract pertains to the water impulsion system, spanning 105 kilometers. Both agreements have a duration of ten years, aligning with the anticipated operational timeframe of the desalination plant and water impulsion system, which are slated to commence operations by the end of 2025.
Colbun's commitment to supplying 100% renewable energy underscores its contribution to sustainable practices and the development of eco-friendly solutions for critical infrastructure projects.
The collaboration between Colbun and Aguas Pacifico exemplifies the growing emphasis on renewable energy in supporting essential facilities, such as desalination plants, and marks a significant step towards achieving clean and sustainable operations in Chile.
