Vattenfall and TKF have inked a multi-year partnership deal designed to revolutionize the supply of array cables for offshore wind farms across Europe.

The agreement, which spans several years, will encompass the provision of 66kV inter-array cables, addressing the demands of all bottom-fixed European wind farms slated for development by Vattenfall in the near future.

This framework contract signifies a significant step towards a consolidated and efficient source agreement, set to be activated without delay. The maiden project to fall under its purview is the formidable German Nordlicht cluster.

Initialing the contract for an initial three-year period, it offers the potential for a five-year extension, signifying a steadfast commitment to their partnership.

A prominent focus on sustainability has been a hallmark of the procurement process, as stated by Vattenfall. TKF has laid out explicit measures geared toward reducing the carbon footprint and bolstering the circularity of cable materials. This entails the deployment of low-carbon aluminum and recycled copper in the construction of cable conductors.

Catrin Jung, Head of offshore wind at Vattenfall, commented, “At Vattenfall, we are dedicated to achieving fossil freedom, with offshore wind farms playing a pivotal role in our aspirations. We are elated to have TKF as our partner, offering innovative technology while prioritizing the reliability and sustainability of the offshore electricity network. With this comprehensive framework agreement, we are advancing the synergy of project specifications, thereby enhancing the reliability and efficiency of wind farm projects.”

Alexander van der Lof, CEO of TKH Group, added his sentiments, stating, “We are thrilled to announce this multi-year agreement with Vattenfall for our subsidiary TKF. Following our successful collaboration with Vattenfall in the Hollandse Kust Zuid 1 and 2 projects, we eagerly anticipate working together on upcoming projects. TKF has made substantial investments in electrification, expanding its capacity to deliver state-of-the-art offshore wind subsea cable solutions. This momentous milestone underscores our prominent position and pivotal role in propelling a sustainable future through our innovative and eco-friendly cable solutions.”
