SUMMARY:BiFi PV Workshop 2023
DESCRIPTION:In just two decades\, solar energy capacity using photovoltaic (PV) technology has skyrocketed from a mere 0.5 GW to a whopping 1.1 TW in 2022. Notably\, about 70% of this growth occurred in the last five years. Nowadays\, developers are increasingly turning to bifacial crystalline silicon PV modules\, which currently make up over 30% of the market. Projections indicate that this figure could exceed 70% by 2033. \nArid and semi-arid locales\, particularly hot deserts\, offer optimal conditions for bifacial PV technology. These regions benefit from consistent high solar radiation and natural albedo\, leading to increased energy yield—especially when equipped with single-axis trackers. This is confirmed by recent record-low costs for solar electricity generated by bifacial tracking systems in places like Qatar\, UAE\, Saudi Arabia\, Australia\, Arizona\, and Chile\, among others. However\, the technology also faces unique challenges\, including degradation and two-sided soiling. \nWe’re thrilled to invite you to the 9th bifiPV Workshop 2023\, scheduled for December 3rd to 6th. The event\, hosted by the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) under Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)\, will take place at Education City in Doha\, Qatar. \nThis four-day gathering will convene international experts in bifacial technology to delve into its current state\, future prospects\, and latest breakthroughs. The attendees—ranging from researchers to manufacturers and project developers—will tackle the multifaceted challenges and opportunities of bifacial PV tech and its operational aspects. The agenda will feature both oral and visual presentations on a variety of topics such as solar cell innovation\, system applications\, and power plant strategies for cost reduction. \nAdditionally\, the workshop will include a technical tour of QEERI’s Outdoor Test Facility (OTF)\, a 35\,000 m2 site boasting state-of-the-art “plug-and-play” test benches for PV modules\, as well as the largest HSAT facility in the MENA region dedicated to R&D and testing.

SUMMARY:Large Scale Solar Central Eastern Europe 2023
DESCRIPTION:The Large Scale Solar Central and Eastern Europe Summit 2023 is back as the region grapples with the pressing issues of meeting decarbonization targets and ensuring energy security. \nFor developers\, investors\, and technology providers embarking on large-scale solar projects across countries such as Poland\, Romania\, Hungary\, Bulgaria\, Ukraine\, Croatia\, Serbia\, Austria\, Czech Republic\, the Baltics\, Slovenia\, and Slovakia\, there exist substantial potential rewards when the right offtake structure and business model are chosen. \nNevertheless\, surmounting challenges related to securing grid connections and permits\, navigating uncertainties linked to rising interest rates\, managing diverse regulatory frameworks in individual countries\, mitigating supply chain disruptions\, understanding the impact of co-located storage revenues\, and adhering to ESG (Environmental\, Social\, and Governance) requirements is crucial to realize these opportunities. \nBy participating in the Large Scale Solar Central and Eastern Europe event\, you can harness a network that has been cultivated over a span of more than a decade to establish essential partnerships for the development of solar projects across the region.

SUMMARY:Solar & Storage Finance USA
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, a pivotal year is on the horizon for the solar and storage industries\, coinciding with Solar Media’s landmark 10th edition finance summit. \nThe previous year witnessed the enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA)\, which consolidates approximately $370 billion in federal funding over the next decade to facilitate the clean energy transition in the United States. The IRA has already had a profound impact on the long-term prospects of the solar and storage sectors. \nSignificant funding is still accessible for large-scale energy infrastructure through the Department of Energy’s $40 billion loans program. Furthermore\, the IRA is expected to attract an additional $600 billion in new investments\, resulting in an extra 222 gigawatts of solar installations over the next ten years. This surge in solar capacity will generate sufficient electricity to power an additional 165 million households in the United States. \nThe story is analogous for energy storage\, as the U.S. government has elevated investment tax credits to 30% for standalone energy systems. Projections indicate that an additional 20.8 gigawatts of utility-scale battery storage will become operational by 2025. Currently\, ten states have set specific procurement targets for energy storage\, and this list is poised to expand. The host state of this year’s summit\, New York\, is expected to incentivize the integration of an extra 5 gigawatts of residential\, commercial\, and utility-scale storage into the grid. \nHowever\, challenges persist as the industry grapples with deciphering the updated tax credit structures\, navigating the obstacles posed by the current inflationary economic climate\, and adhering to project timelines.
