New York’s South Fork Wind Project Nears Completion with Arrival of First Turbine

New York's inaugural offshore wind venture, the 130-megawatt South Fork Wind project, is on the brink of a significant milestone as it welcomes the arrival of its first turbine.

This offshore , the first of twelve, embarked on its journey from the Port of New London in to the project site, situated 35 miles off the coast of Montauk, Long Island.

The installation of the initial turbine is expected to take place in the coming days, marking a pivotal step towards the project's completion. Anticipated to commence power generation for Long Island in 2023, the South Fork Wind project is progressing steadily.

This collaborative venture remains equally owned by US energy company Energy and Denmark's Ørsted A/S, maintaining a 50/50 partnership.

In a recent development, the two partners reached an agreement that entails Ørsted's of Eversource Energy's stake in several offshore wind projects, including the South Fork Wind initiative. This strategic move underscores the commitment to advancing offshore wind initiatives in the region.
