SA, a Peruvian power producer, announced on Thursday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire companies holding wind power assets totaling 76.8 MW in Peru. The includes operational wind farms, and Huambos, with capacities of 18.4 MW each, as well as two greenfield wind projects, Naira I and Naira II, each with a capacity of 20 MW. These assets are strategically located in the Peruvian region of Cajamarca.

Financial specifics of the deal remain undisclosed, and Engie Energia Peru did not disclose the name of the seller. However, industry insiders speculate that Spanish renewables company Grenergy Renovables SA may be the likely seller.

Grenergy successfully connected the Duna and Huambos wind farms to the grid in early 2021, marking a significant step in their development. Meanwhile, the Naira I and Naira II projects are listed as works in progress in Grenergy's most recent financial report.

As a subsidiary of the renowned utility, Engie SA, Engie Energia Peru sees this acquisition as a strategic move to bolster its installed renewable energy capacity to over 600 MW while simultaneously expanding its presence and reach across Peru. The addition of Naira I and Naira II will further complement the company's existing portfolio, which boasts approximately 1,200 MW in wind and solar projects under development.

However, it's important to note that Engie Energia Peru awaits regulatory approval to finalize the acquisition deal. This regulatory step underscores the importance of complying with the country's legal framework and ensuring a smooth transition in the ownership of these wind power assets.
