Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), , and Lhyfe have unveiled the ambitious “Aland Energy Island” project in Aland, . This initiative is set to seamlessly integrate substantial offshore generation with large-scale hydrogen production. The primary objective is to create a significant hydrogen production hub on Aland, aligning it with gigawatt-scale offshore wind capabilities in Aland's waters. The resultant energy is intended for use both locally on the islands and across the broader European region.

This groundbreaking partnership will work closely with local government authorities and other stakeholders to craft the precise configuration of the Aland Energy Island project. The aim is to maximize the benefits of this innovative endeavor for the Aland archipelago.

CIP, operating through its subsidiary Copenhagen Energy Islands, is a dedicated fund manager specializing in greenfield renewable energy investments, including offshore wind, green hydrogen, and energy islands. Their partnership with Lhyfe and Flexens strengthens the Aland Energy Island project, combining expertise in hydrogen facility development, offshore wind, and local infrastructure.

Lhyfe brings its extensive experience and capabilities in developing, designing, and operating both onshore and offshore hydrogen facilities across . They currently operate one plant in France, with seven more under construction in , France, and Germany. Flexens, being an Aland-based regional developer of hydrogen projects, adds valuable local knowledge and infrastructure development expertise, making the consortium well-positioned to address the specific needs of the Aland region.

Thomas Dalsgaard, a partner at CIP, emphasized the project's potential to enhance the regional offshore wind sector, aligning with Aland's goals for local value creation and job opportunities, while also contributing to the broader energy transition and regional energy independence. This collaboration stands as a testament to the partners' commitment to shaping the Aland Energy Island project in harmony with the environmental, economic, and social interests of Aland, underlining its significance for sustainable energy development in the region.
