Aker Horizons Secures 370 MW Grid Capacity for Green Hydrogen Projects in Northern Norway

ASA, a prominent Norwegian renewables and company, revealed today that it has been granted a substantial 370 MW grid capacity by the power system operator . This allocation is intended to facilitate two green ammonia projects situated in the northern region of , marking a significant step towards advancing sustainable energy solutions.

The lion's share of this grid capacity, totaling 250 MW, has been earmarked for a collaborative initiative in Kvandal, located just outside Narvik. The project, a partnership between Aker Horizons and , is known as the “Narvik Green Ammonia” project. It is strategically designed to generate up to 1,000 tonnes of green ammonia, underscoring the commitment to environmentally responsible ammonia production. The project is currently progressing towards a final investment decision expected in 2025, with commercial operations slated to commence in 2028.

Kristoffer Dahlberg, Chief Financial Officer in Aker Horizons Asset Development, expressed enthusiasm regarding this pivotal development, emphasizing its role in advancing Kvandal and Narvik as thriving hubs for emerging green industries within the region.

The remaining 120 MW of grid capacity has been designated for another project located in Berlevag, contingent upon the completion of the new 420-kilovolt line to Seidafjellet. This allocation is poised to further contribute to the growth of sustainable energy endeavors in the area.
