Polish utility PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA and Denmark's Ørsted A/S have taken a significant step forward in their 1.5-Gigawatt (GW) Baltica 2 offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea by securing contracts for the provision of the remaining 34 monopile foundations out of the 111 required for the endeavor.
The contract has been granted to Steelwind Nordenham, a subsidiary of Dillinger, following a competitive bidding process. The German company is slated to commence production of these foundations in the second half of 2025, according to an announcement made today.
Another consortium, comprising Spanish shipbuilder Navantia and wind tower manufacturer Windar, has been entrusted with supplying the remaining 77 monopile foundations for the wind project. This ambitious initiative encompasses a total of 107 turbines and four offshore substations, with production of the foundations set to commence in the coming year.
Wojciech Dabrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE, expressed their confidence in the project's preparations, stating, “We have already secured all key components for the offshore part of Baltica 2. The finalized tenders and signed agreements clearly show how advanced the project preparations are.”
Baltica 2 is an integral component of the larger 2.5-GW Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project, strategically located approximately 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) off the northern coast of Poland, between Leba and Ustka. The project is slated for completion by the end of 2027.
