Amazon Adds 39 Solar and Wind Projects to European Clean Energy Portfolio

has announced the addition of 39 new projects to its portfolio in , marking a substantial commitment to sustainable energy in the region. These projects, established in 2023, include 24 utility-scale wind and solar initiatives, notably featuring Amazon's inaugural solar farm in . This development comes on the heels of the company's first utility-scale solar farm in , established in the previous year.

In total, Amazon's endeavors have contributed over 1 gigawatt (GW) of clean energy capacity to European power grids. The company's sustainable energy projects now span across 13 countries in Europe, surpassing 160 wind and solar installations.

Upon completion and full operational status, these projects are projected to provide an impressive 5.8GW of clean energy capacity. This substantial output is sufficient to power more than 4.9 million British households on an annual basis.

Amazon's investments in renewable energy across these European nations play a crucial role in advancing the decarbonization of energy grids, facilitating the transition away from fossil fuels, as stated by the company.

Lindsay McQuade, Director of Energy, EMEA at Amazon, emphasized the company's commitment to promoting clean energy sources and their positive impact on local communities. McQuade stated, “With more than 160 wind and solar projects in Europe, Amazon is helping to provide new sources of clean energy to local grids, creating jobs, and supporting local businesses as we progress toward powering our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.”
