Mytilineos Energy and Metals, a Greece-based firm, has officially entered into an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the ambitious 373MW Cleve Hill solar project in Kent, United Kingdom. The project is under the ownership of investment firm Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, who acquired the Cleve Hill Solar Park in 2021. The contract's total value amounts to just over £114 million for Mytilineos.
The Cleve Hill Solar Park, which commenced construction in April 2023, is slated for completion in 2025. It is set to become the United Kingdom's largest solar and battery energy storage endeavor, boasting a remarkable 373MW of solar capacity and over 150MW of battery energy storage.
This groundbreaking solar project achieved a significant milestone by being classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), setting it apart as a pivotal initiative in the UK's renewable energy landscape. The development of Cleve Hill Solar Park received the green light from the energy secretary in May 2020 and will comprise an impressive 880,000 solar panels combined with cutting-edge battery storage technology.
Cleve Hill joins the growing portfolio of battery assets under Mytilineos's supervision. The company has an impressive track record, having previously constructed and commissioned more than 439MW of solar capacity and 732MW/1.18GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the UK.
Earlier this year, Mytilineos made a strategic move by entering into a power purchase agreement (PPA) in collaboration with Centrica and telecommunications giant Vodafone UK. This partnership encompasses power generation from five sites, collectively possessing a capacity of 232MW, situated in Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Dorset. The combined electricity generation from these facilities is projected to reach a substantial 216GWh once all sites are fully operational by the first quarter of 2024.
