Orlen Group Secures Licenses for 5 Offshore Wind Farm Sites, Totaling 5200MW in Poland

The Group, a prominent player in the energy sector, has reached a significant milestone by obtaining licenses from the Polish Minister of Infrastructure for five new wind farm development sites, boasting a combined capacity of 5200MW.

This pivotal decision marks the commencement of the preparatory phase for these ambitious projects. The initial phase will encompass critical activities such as wind resource assessment, preliminary geotechnical surveys, and environmental impact assessments. These assessments are vital components of the administrative and design processes.

Daniel Obajtek, the Chief Executive of Orlen and President of the Board, expressed the company's commitment to spearheading offshore wind farm projects in . He highlighted Orlen's wealth of experience gained from the Baltic Power project and its readiness to swiftly and effectively initiate preparations for these five additional offshore projects. Orlen's progress is noteworthy, surpassing other investors who entered the offshore wind sector before them.

Obajtek emphasized the importance of these projects in enhancing Poland's economic competitiveness and growth, particularly through the adoption of modern energy sources. The successful execution of these projects aligns with Poland's energy security goals and supports the ORLEN Group's strategic ambition of achieving 9GW of installed capacity by the end of the decade.

Among the five licenses granted to the Orlen Group, four are located on the Oder Bank near Kołobrzeg, while the fifth is situated on the Słupsk Bank. These areas are adjacent to the site of the Baltic Power wind farm, a collaborative endeavor between Orlen and its Canadian partner, Northland Power. Notably, the Baltic Power wind farm stands as Poland's most advanced offshore project, boasting a capacity of 1.2GW and aiming to commence electricity generation as early as.
