, the developer behind an ambitious floating offshore project off the northeast coast of , has reached a crucial milestone by submitting its Offshore Scoping Report to the Scottish Government's Marine Directorate. This submission represents the project's initial major step in the consenting process, shedding light on project details and its approach to (EIA). Located approximately 75 kilometers northeast of Fraserburgh on the Aberdeenshire Coast, the wind farm is anticipated to have a remarkable capacity of around 1 gigawatt (GW).

Stakeholders and interested parties are actively encouraged to provide comments and participate in the scoping process, ensuring that diverse perspectives are considered in the project's development. Additionally, the Project Development team has announced plans to host public exhibitions, both in-person and virtually, during the autumn of this year. These exhibitions will provide a platform for individuals to gain a deeper understanding of the project and offer their valuable feedback.

Alasdair MacLeod, Project Director at Buchan Offshore Wind, emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating, “This is another important step forward for Buchan Offshore Wind, which is expected to be one of the world's first commercial-scale floating offshore wind farms when built. The project would make a meaningful contribution to meeting net-zero targets and provide a significant boost to the Scottish offshore wind supply chain. We look forward to working through feedback on our proposals from consultees and local community representatives as we seek to optimize the overall design and layout of the wind farm.”

The Buchan Offshore Wind project underscores the growing importance of offshore in contributing to renewable energy goals and achieving net-zero emissions targets. It also represents a significant opportunity for the Scottish offshore wind sector to thrive and contribute to a sustainable energy future.
