Rohe Solutions, a prominent player in the natural gas industry, has announced its plans to commence the liquefaction of biogas at the Hamina LNG terminal in Finland. The company is gearing up to deliver its newly introduced product, Bio-LNG, to customers beginning in early 2024.
Rohe Solutions is a vital member of the Haminan kaasuklusteri, a collaborative coalition of gas and energy companies operating in the Hamina region of Finland. Leveraging this association, the company intends to establish comprehensive supply channels for Bio-LNG, not only within Finland but also extending beyond its borders.
The decision comes in response to the surging market demand for bio-LNG, a sustainable and eco-friendly energy source. However, the challenge lies in the limited domestic production of bio-LNG within Finland, with ongoing projects to increase production still in their nascent stages. Consequently, ensuring the availability of bio-LNG, especially for short-term needs, remains a significant concern for the industry.
The Hamina LNG terminal is poised to play a pivotal role in resolving this challenge. By liquefying biogas at this facility, Rohe Solutions aims to improve the accessibility of biogas for consumers, a crucial aspect as demand continues to rise. Additionally, the incorporation of liquefied biogas into the energy portfolio aligns with the company's commitment to reducing emissions through sustainable solutions.
An essential benefit of this initiative is the support it offers to smaller biogas producers. These producers can now access biogas liquefaction at the LNG terminal without the need for substantial investments in liquefaction equipment.
For biogas to be liquefied at the terminal, it must first be injected into the national gas grid. Rohe Solutions is actively collaborating with various stakeholders to bolster the supply of biogas. This innovative approach of liquefying biogas from the grid enables Rohe Solutions to introduce Bio-LNG to the market even before the planned biogas production plant projects reach completion.
Sanna Kokkonen, the CEO of Rohe Solutions, stated, “By liquefying biogas from the grid, we will be able to offer Bio-LNG to the market before the planned biogas production plant projects are completed.” This move underscores the company's commitment to meeting the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions in an environmentally conscious manner.
