BHEL Secures Contract for India’s Largest Hydropower Project

() has successfully clinched a pivotal contract for the Electro-Mechanical (E&M) components of the Dibang Multipurpose Project, the largest endeavor in the nation. This prestigious contract, involving the development of a 12×240 MW hydropower project located in Roing, Arunachal Pradesh, was awarded to BHEL by the esteemed National Power Corporation (NHPC), following a rigorous international competitive bidding process.

Under this noteworthy agreement, BHEL is entrusted with an array of crucial responsibilities encompassing the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, and commissioning of the comprehensive electro-mechanical package. This package comprises a diverse range of essential components including Turbines, Generators, Digital Governing Systems, Static Excitation Systems, Transformers, Bus Reactors, Gas Insulated Switchgear, Outdoor Pot Yard & Switchyard Equipment, as well as Electrical & Mechanical Balance of Plant (BoPs).

BHEL's commitment to delivering excellence in this project will see the manufacturing of major components take place at its state-of-the-art facilities strategically located in Bhopal, Bengaluru, Jhansi, and Rudrapur. Simultaneously, the on-site execution and assembly tasks will be skillfully managed by BHEL's Power Sector – Eastern Region division, headquartered in Kolkata.

This latest achievement underscores BHEL's enduring partnership with NHPC, spanning over four decades since their collaboration commenced with the commissioning of the Bairasul project (3x60MW) in 1981. In addition to this landmark endeavor, BHEL remains actively engaged in various other significant projects, including the 850MW Ratle Hydropower Project in Jammu and Kashmir, where it is overseeing limited E&M works, and the vital renovation and modernization efforts at the 105MW Loktak Hydropower Project in Manipur.
