NKT has achieved certification for its cable-laying vessel, NKT Victoria, to operate on biofuels, specifically hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). This certification, carried out by DNV, represents a major stride in reducing the carbon footprint associated with the vessel's fuel consumption, exceeding a remarkable 98% reduction.
This achievement comes in the wake of the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) validating NKT's short-term decarbonization objectives in September 2023. The HVO certification of NKT Victoria stands as a crucial milestone in their journey towards meeting the SBTi-approved goal of slashing scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by 2030, as compared to the levels recorded in 2019.
