Apex Clean Energy and Google Collaborate on Timbermill Wind Project to Advance Clean Energy Goals

In a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions, and have entered into a (PPA) for the entirety of the 189MW capacity of the forthcoming Timbermill Wind project, set to be erected in North Carolina. This collaboration not only underscores Google's dedication to achieving carbon-free operations by 2030 but also signals a joint effort to address the challenges of integration within complex grids.

Google's ongoing environmental endeavors, spanning over three decades, have notably included powering its operations exclusively with renewable energy sources since 2017. The newly inked PPA with Apex Clean Energy for the Timbermill Wind project further solidifies Google's commitment to sustainability and clean energy.

The Timbermill Wind project stands as a testament to Apex Clean Energy's proficiency in executing their extensive portfolio of renewable initiatives. Donna Calderon, Google's Energy Senior Lead, remarked, “Our vision for the next decade includes an ambitious aspiration for each Google data center to operate using clean , without exception. Our collaboration with Apex represents a pivotal step towards achieving this goal, as we not only introduce wind power into a challenging grid environment but also contribute to the growth of clean energy employment in North Carolina.”

Apex Clean Energy's CEO, Ken Young, echoed Calderon's sentiments, highlighting the significance of the Timbermill Wind project. Young stated, “Timbermill Wind project is a testament to the Apex team's unparalleled expertise in executing our diverse portfolio, even in regions where advancing wind power has historically posed challenges. In tandem with Google, a partner that shares our values and possesses an ambitious perspective on its role in the energy transition, we proudly present this exemplary project—a feat made possible through our robust collaboration.”

Beyond the evident environmental advantages, the Timbermill Wind project is poised to make a substantial positive impact on the local community. As the largest taxpayer in Chowan County, the project is projected to contribute around $190,000 to neighboring conservation efforts. Moreover, the project's economic implications are noteworthy, with an anticipated $33 million in tax revenue destined for the community, accompanied by the creation of over 150 jobs during the construction phase. Additionally, local farmers and landowners stand to gain a new source of income, reinforcing the project's multi-faceted benefits to the region.
