SSE Renewables and TotalEnergies have achieved a significant milestone in the development of the Seagreen 1100MW offshore wind farm located off the coast of Scotland. The installation of the final turbine marks a major step towards the project's completion.
Situated approximately 27km from the Angus coast, the wind farm now boasts 76 out of 114 Vestas V164-10.0MW turbines that are fully energized, generating more than two-thirds of Seagreen's maximum capacity. Once fully operational, Seagreen will become Scotland's largest offshore wind farm, with the ability to produce approximately 5000GWh of clean, renewable energy annually.
The installation of the last turbine follows the successful completion of the turbine foundation jacket installation campaign. Notably, the project set a new record by installing the world's deepest wind turbine foundation at an impressive depth of 58.6 meters.
John Hill, the project director of Seagreen, expressed his appreciation for the collective effort involved in reaching this significant milestone. He commended the teams, including Vestas, operator of the Orca Cadeler, and the wind turbine marshalling team at Port of Nigg, for their hard work and dedication. Hill emphasized that the project has already provided substantial benefits to the local community and the UK supply chain. Once fully operational in the summer of 2023, it will make a substantial contribution to Scotland's and the UK's ambitious net-zero targets.
SSE Renewables remains at the forefront of the Seagreen project's development and construction, and upon completion, will assume responsibility for operating the wind farm for its projected 25-year lifespan. This achievement marks a significant step forward in Scotland's renewable energy sector, propelling the nation towards a cleaner and more sustainable future.
