Vestas Secures 139MW Repowering Order from Vitol for Pennsylvania Wind Projec

, a wind turbine manufacturer, has recently announced that it has been awarded a substantial order to repower a project owned by Vitol in , USA. The project involves the replacement of existing wind turbines with more efficient and advanced models, marking a significant step towards increasing the overall energy output of the facility.

Under the agreement, Vestas will supply and deliver 68 V110-2.0MW wind turbines, which will operate at 2.05MW, surpassing the capabilities of the current Senvion MM92-2.05MW wind machines installed at the site. In addition to the turbine installation, Vestas will also be responsible for commissioning the new units. To ensure the optimal performance and longevity of the , a comprehensive 20-year Active Output Management 5000 service agreement has been included in the deal.

Laura Beane, the President of Vestas , expressed her satisfaction with the collaboration between Vestas and Vitol, stating, “We are pleased to build upon our strong partnership with Vitol to successfully repower wind projects across the US. This project is another example of collaboration between Vestas and Vitol to extend the production lifespan of aging fleets with customized solutions for specific site conditions utilizing Vestas's proven technology.”

Andrew de Pass, the Head of Renewable and Sustainable Energy at Vitol, emphasized their commitment to investments, particularly in the United States. He stated, “We will continue to invest in renewables across the US. Across all our assets, we believe in optimizing performance through investment and improvement and are pleased to be working with Vestas on another repowering project.”

The delivery of the turbines is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2024, with the commissioning planned for the fourth quarter of the same year. This strategic repowering initiative signifies the joint effort of Vestas and Vitol to enhance the operational efficiency and productivity of aging wind farms, aligning with the goal of extending the lifespan of renewable energy assets.
