In a significant development, the Hollandse Kust Noord platform has been officially taken over by TenneT, the Dutch transmission system operator. This milestone comes after a series of successful project stages, including engineering, procurement, construction, offshore installation, and offshore hook-up, culminating in the signing of the Taking-Over certificate.
The Hollandse Kust Noord platform, the first of three projects completed by the Equans and Smulders joint venture for TenneT, stands as a testament to their collaboration. While construction is still underway for the Hollandse Kust West Alfa and West Beta platforms, their completion is anticipated by the end of 2023 and the middle of 2025, respectively.
Expressing his pride in reaching this important milestone, Hans Schipper, the joint venture project manager for the HKN platform, stated, “We are very proud that this important milestone for the project has been reached, and a high-quality platform has been safely delivered.” He acknowledged the challenges posed by the COVID-19 period and credited the exceptional cooperation among TenneT, the joint venture teams, HV equipment suppliers, Bureau Veritas, and subcontractors for the project's success.
Combining TenneT's expertise in standardized 700MW offshore transformer stations with the joint venture's extensive experience in developing offshore transformer stations over the past decades, this successful conclusion sets an optimistic outlook for the HKwA and HKwB projects. Schipper expressed confidence, saying, “We are therefore more than confident that the HKwA and HKwB projects will be successfully concluded as well.”
Adding to the positive sentiment, Guus Siteur, the HKN platform project lead at TenneT, remarked, “Starting off the journey with the Equans-Smulders joint venture three years ago, TenneT is pleased and confident to take over and start operating the Hollandse Kust Noord offshore platform. This is the result of good cooperation and partnership between all parties involved. A lot of hard work has led to a timely delivery of this high-quality project.”
