Ocean Winds, a renewable energy company, has embarked on the construction of an operations and maintenance (O&M) base in Scotland to support its Moray West offshore wind farm. The momentous occasion was graced by Gillian Martin MSP, Minister for Energy, who attended the commencement of construction at a brownfield site situated on a 2000 square metre area along Buckie harbourside.
The establishment of the O&M base is accompanied by an ongoing recruitment drive, with 11 out of the targeted 60 long-term local positions already filled. The selected personnel are currently undergoing rigorous training to ensure their preparedness for the demanding tasks ahead. As a result, the development of the base will not only generate employment opportunities within the region but also stimulate growth across the regional supply chain.
Dedicated service technicians will be responsible for equipment preparation essential for the wind farm operations. Prior to boarding the crew transfer vessels, which will be docked alongside new pontoons in the harbour, these technicians will equip themselves accordingly. Additionally, the facility will house staff members tasked with managing the warehouse, health and safety protocols, as well as equipment monitoring for the wind farm.
By establishing the Buckie site, Ocean Winds aims to complement its existing base for the Moray East project in Fraserburgh. This strategic move will empower the company to effectively oversee and maintain the expanding portfolio of offshore wind farms in the Moray Firth region. With a focus on efficiency and sustainability, Ocean Winds is firmly committed to supporting Scotland's renewable energy goals and contributing to the nation's transition towards a greener future.
