SSE Renewables and FuturEnergy Ireland have recently taken delivery of the first components for their collaborative project, the 30MW Lenalea wind farm situated in central Donegal. This development marks a significant milestone in the construction of the wind farm, which aims to generate green electricity for the local community.
To minimize disruption to nearby residents, the initial deliveries for the seven-turbine project were carefully planned and executed in the early hours of May 23. The turbine contractor's team stationed at the Lenalea site efficiently received the first Vestas V117-4.3MW nacelle, kickstarting the installation process.
Over the course of the next seven weeks, additional deliveries will take place, with specialized teams required to transport the large turbine blades. These impressive components are scheduled to be installed at Lenalea between early June and the end of August 2023.
Elizabeth Anne Read, the Associate Project Manager at Vestas, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the initial component deliveries and highlighted the forthcoming delivery of the wind turbine blades. Given their size, these deliveries necessitate the expertise of a specialist team for safe transportation, alongside an escort from the Garda.
Project Manager Patrick Greene for Lenalea Wind Farm emphasized the significance of this milestone, as it brings the project closer to its goal of supplying green electricity to the local community in Donegal. He further explained that the Lenalea wind farm aligns with SSE Renewables' ambitious Net Zero Acceleration Plan, which involves substantial investments in critical low-carbon infrastructure, amounting to approximately €8 million per day. As a responsible developer and operator, the project team looks forward to fostering close collaboration with the neighboring community in Lenalea.
The progress made in delivering the initial wind turbine components underscores the dedication of SSE Renewables, FuturEnergy Ireland, and their partners in advancing renewable energy infrastructure. With the installation phase approaching, the Lenalea wind farm is poised to contribute to the transition toward net zero emissions while providing sustainable power to the local area.
