The Scottish Government has given its approval to SSE Renewables’ application to construct an extension to the Achany Wind Farm, located near Rosehall in the Scottish Highlands. The project has now received full consent and is set to make a positive impact on both the environment and the local economy.

The extension will comprise 18 turbines, boasting a combined installed capacity of up to 77MW. Depending on the selection of turbines, the tip height can reach a maximum of 149.9 meters. Claire Black, the Project Manager for Achany Extension Wind Farm, expressed her satisfaction with the government’s decision, emphasizing its potential benefits for the environment and the Highland economy.

Black stated, “The Scottish Government’s decision to approve our application for Achany Extension Wind Farm is a positive move for the environment and the Highland economy. The construction of Achany Extension will provide significant opportunities for businesses and tradespeople in the region and will also create substantial opportunities for local and regional community investment through the establishment of a new community fund, just as the existing Achany Wind Farm community fund has done.”

Before commencing the main construction of the project, the company will carefully review the details of the Scottish Government’s decision. This review period will be followed by pre-construction activities necessary to facilitate the project, pending a Final Investment Decision (FID) expected to be reached by 2025.

The Achany Wind Farm extension represents a significant step toward Scotland’s renewable energy goals and contributes to the country’s ongoing commitment to clean and sustainable energy sources. The project not only provides environmental benefits but also promises to generate employment opportunities and foster regional economic growth. With the establishment of a new community fund, it will further support the local and regional communities, creating a positive and lasting impact on the area.
