Evergy Completes $250 Million Acquisition of Persimmon Creek Wind Farm from Scout Clean Energy and Elawan Energy

Scout Clean Energy and Elawan Energy have successfully concluded the previously announced sale of the Persimmon Creek in Oklahoma, US, to for $250 million. The transaction, which was initially disclosed in August 2022, has now been finalized after meeting all necessary conditions, including regulatory approvals.

The Persimmon Creek wind farm, situated in western Oklahoma, commenced commercial operations in August 2018. Spanning over 17,000 acres across Dewey, Ellis, and Woodward counties, the facility is equipped with 80 turbines supplied by . It has consistently delivered reliable renewable energy for the past five years, making it a lucrative investment for Scout Clean Energy.

Michael Rucker, CEO and founder of Scout Clean Energy, expressed his satisfaction with the sale, stating, “The Persimmon Creek Wind Farm has proven to be a reliable source of renewable energy over the last five years, making it a solid investment for Scout. We are excited to finalize the sale to Evergy as it seeks to deliver carbon-free wind energy directly to their customers.”

The Persimmon Creek wind farm will contribute clean power to customers in the Missouri West service area of Evergy. Elawan Energy, an company, reported that the wind farm generated 837 gigawatt-hours of electricity in 2022.

With this acquisition, Evergy has expanded its portfolio of owned renewable energy assets. The Kansas City-based electric utility announced its intention to add more than 3.5 gigawatts of renewable energy and retire over 1.9 gigawatts of coal-fired power plants in the next decade.

Scout Clean Energy plans to utilize the proceeds from the sale of the Persimmon Creek wind farm to invest in new development projects. As a renewable energy developer owned by Brookfield Renewable, Scout Clean Energy has initiated construction on the Sweetland wind farm in South , which has a capacity of 200 megawatts. Additionally, the company is in the process of securing financing for the Markum solar power project in Texas, with a capacity of 209 megawatts, which is scheduled to begin construction later this year.
