Iberdrola, a leading renewable energy company, has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Holcim, a building firm, to supply 250GWh of clean energy annually from its Baltic Eagle offshore windfarm located in Germany. This collaboration aims to facilitate Holcim's transition towards achieving net-zero emissions in Germany, with a target of utilizing over 80% renewable energy in its operations by 2030.
The Baltic Eagle offshore windfarm is presently being constructed in the Baltic Sea, situated north of the island of Rügen. Once completed in 2024, it will possess a total capacity of 476MW. In addition to the PPA, Iberdrola and Holcim have established a joint working group to explore the potential for various sustainability-focused projects in Europe, as well as other continents.

Under this comprehensive agreement, the companies are considering additional PPAs to decarbonize Holcim's operations. They are also evaluating suitable locations to develop on-site renewable energy facilities, including solar photovoltaic and green hydrogen infrastructure, at Holcim's operational plants.
Moreover, Iberdrola will assist Holcim in analyzing projects that can enhance the electrification of existing industrial processes and promote electric mobility solutions. Both organizations share a long-term vision of utilizing 100% emissions-free green cement in the construction of renewable energy projects worldwide.
Aitor Moso, the director of Iberdrola's Retail Business, expressed pride in collaborating with Holcim and supporting their commitment to sustainability in the building solutions sector. He emphasized that the agreement would immediately contribute clean energy from offshore wind to Holcim's operations and that both companies are eager to expand their sustainable partnership in the future.
