Five companies have applied to Norway’s state enterprise Enova for a combined NOK 9 billion in support to develop floating offshore wind demonstration projects over the next five years.
Enova said it can award up to NOK 2 billion per project, with final funding decisions expected in the spring.
The applications will be evaluated on how effectively the proposed technologies contribute to the transition to a low-emission society. Assessment criteria include energy output per krone of support, potential for technology diffusion, degree of innovation, climate footprint and biodiversity impacts.
Marine Energy Test Centre Director Cecilia Girard-Vika welcomed the level of interest in the programme.
“We are very pleased with the strong interest in the programme,” Girard-Vika said.
For many years, we have worked systematically to prepare the METCentre offshore wind site outside Karmøy to host the next generation of floating wind technologies, and we are now eagerly awaiting the outcome of the competition.
