Heavy transport specialist Collett has completed the delivery of 189 wind turbine components for EDF power solutions UK’s 102MW Stranoch Wind Farm in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.
The company transported equipment for 20 Vestas turbines — comprising nine V150s, seven V136s and four V117s — with all loads arriving through Cairnryan Port.
Collett said the 8.4-mile delivery route largely followed rural single-track roads, requiring detailed planning due to restricted port storage capacity and the mixed turbine specifications.
All blades were transported using Nooteboom Super Wing Carriers, including 74-metre V150 blades that the company described as the longest it has moved in the UK using that trailer configuration.
Tower sections were hauled on Nooteboom tower clamp trailers, while nacelles were transported on step-frame and clamp trailers. Hubs and drive trains were moved using six- and eight-axle step-frame trailers.
Deliveries frequently ran on a double-shift weekday schedule, supported by dedicated police escorts and Collett’s in-house escort fleet.
The logistics provider said it worked closely with Police Scotland, Transport Scotland, Dumfries & Galloway Council and Amey to maintain safety and minimise disruption for local communities.
