Renewable energy developer RES has been awarded Contracts for Difference (CfDs) for its Longhedge Solar Farm and Cairn Duhie Wind Farm under the UK’s Allocation Round 7, the company said.
RES said the awards mark a milestone for its UK pipeline and reflect the maturity and readiness of the two projects. The outcome also signals continued government support for accelerating clean, domestically produced electricity and provides reassurance to investors on market stability, the company added.
Lucy Whitford, managing director for the UK and Ireland at RES, said the results demonstrated policy backing for renewables development. “RES warmly welcomes today’s Contract for Difference results for onshore wind and solar, which demonstrate a strong commitment from the UK Government to accelerating clean, home-grown power,” she said.
Whitford said securing CfDs for the two projects highlighted the quality of RES’s development portfolio. “Being awarded CfDs for Longhedge Solar Farm and Cairn Duhie Wind Farm is a significant milestone for RES and reflects the maturity, quality and readiness of our pipeline,” she added.
RES said the projects are expected to support skilled jobs, strengthen energy security and contribute to progress towards lower consumer energy bills. Whitford said wider analysis also points to long-term economic benefits. “Analysis from WindEurope shows that a renewables-based energy system could save up to €1.6 trillion by 2050, underlining that the case for renewables is economic as well as environmental,” she said.
“Today’s announcement shows what can be achieved when policy ambition aligns with industry capability,” Whitford added.
