Hanwha Ocean has secured an order for a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) from Ocean Wind Power 1.
The shipbuilder said the vessel is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2028 and is under review for deployment on priority domestic offshore wind projects, including the Shinan Ui development in Jeollanam-do.
Hanwha Ocean added that the unit will be South Korea’s first WTIV capable of installing 15MW-class turbines and is expected to become the largest vessel operating in the country’s offshore wind market.
The company noted that with national offshore wind capacity forecast to reach 25GW by 2035, demand for installation infrastructure such as ports and specialised vessels is set to increase.
Hanwha Ocean said it aims to support the sector’s growth by leveraging its experience in building large, purpose-designed offshore assets.
The shipbuilder has delivered four WTIVs to date.
