ABB, a Swiss company specializing in automation and digitalization solutions, has been chosen as a participant in the Bair Energy Green Hydrogen and Technology Alliance, a consortium working on a major green hydrogen project in Texas. ABB will contribute its expertise in turnkey automation, electrification, and digitalization to help reduce the production costs of green hydrogen at the Clear Fork Texas facility, which is expected to have a capacity of 1 GW.
The initial phase of the project aims to produce up to 33,000 kg of green hydrogen per day using renewable power, with plans to increase the daily capacity to 132,000 kg by 2028. The produced green hydrogen, which emits no carbon when utilized as an energy source, will be liquefied on-site, stored, and transported to customers, supporting the development of hydrogen networks in the mobility and transportation sector.

To ensure efficient execution of the project, ABB will leverage its Adaptive Execution methodology, which integrates expert teams, agile processes, and new technologies from design to operations. The collaboration with Bair Energy also allows for the exploration of digital twin technology, facilitated by ABB's simulation software, to streamline the plant start-up process.
Expected to commence operations in 2025, the Clear Fork Texas Project will be one of the largest locally generated sources of green hydrogen. Brandon Spencer, President of ABB Energy Industries, expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting ABB's commitment to supporting low-cost hydrogen production and sustainable transportation both in the United States and globally.
