The European Commission has launched an in-depth investigation into the supply of wind turbines and related services by Goldwind to EU member states, citing concerns that the Chinese manufacturer may have benefited from foreign subsidies that distort competition in the bloc’s internal market.
The probe follows a broader investigation into Chinese turbine makers opened under the EU’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation in April 2024.
The Commission said information gathered so far indicates Goldwind may have received support including grants, preferential tax treatment and favourable financing through loans.
“The Commission has preliminary concerns that these foreign subsidies may improve Goldwind’s competitive position in the internal market and may negatively affect competition for the supply of turbines,” it said.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the Commission could accept commitments from Goldwind, impose redressive measures, or issue a no-objection decision.
