China’s Envision Energy has announced full commercial operation of the 240-megawatt Khizi–Absheron wind power project in Azerbaijan, marking a milestone for the country’s renewable energy sector.
The company said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the commissioning ceremony and highlighted the project’s strategic importance to the country’s energy transition. Envision described the development as Azerbaijan’s first domestically developed utility-scale wind project and the largest wind farm in the Caucasus region to date.
The project comprises 37 EN-171/6.5-MW turbines supplied by Envision Energy and transported around 9,200 km from China to the Caspian Sea. Once fully operational, the wind farm is expected to generate about 893 gigawatt hours of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 400,000 tonnes per year, the company said.
Envision Energy said it provided customised turbine designs optimised for high-wind conditions, alongside tailored logistics solutions and system-level engineering to support efficient operation across the site.
The company added that the Khizi–Absheron project demonstrates how project-specific design and cross-border collaboration can enable large-scale wind power development in complex operating environments.
