European Energy has started hydrogen production at its expanded Måde Power-to-X facility in Denmark following an increase in electrolyser capacity, the company said.
The renewable energy developer said capacity at the site has been raised to 8.1 megawatts after the installation and commissioning of an additional electrolyser unit. The first hydrogen from the new Plug Power electrolyser was produced on Dec. 10, 2025, operating initially at 10% capacity and a pressure of 40 bar, according to the company.
The Måde facility previously operated with a 3.1 MW electrolyser supplied by Stiesdal, which has now been replaced with an updated unit as part of the expansion.
European Energy said it has also secured ISO 9001 certification for its operations as a gas distributor in Denmark. Hydrogen produced at the facility will be certified as renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) under the ISCC certification scheme.
“Expanding the electrolysis capacity at Måde is an important step in advancing our work with Power-to-X,” said Lars Dyrholm, director and head of Power-to-X asset management and operations at European Energy. “The new unit allows us to test system performance under operational conditions and supports our aim to develop commercially viable hydrogen production based on up-to-date technical standards.”
The company said further system tuning, performance optimisation and verification activities are expected to continue for the next three to four weeks.
Once commissioning is completed, the facility is expected to begin commercial hydrogen supply. European Energy said it aims to deliver around 550 tonnes of green hydrogen in 2026, equivalent to roughly 1,500 truckloads.
European Energy first produced hydrogen at the Måde site in June 2024 and has said it plans to continue testing different electrolyser technologies at the facility.
