Zelestra has secured a contract for a solar project of up to 108 megawatts in Sicily following Italy’s second FER X auction, marking the firm’s largest solar scheme in its Italian portfolio.
The company said the award strengthens its position in one of its fastest-growing markets, where it now holds more than 1.4 gigawatts of solar and battery storage projects. Earlier in December, Zelestra won about 60MW across eight projects in the first FER X auction.
The FER X mechanism is designed to support Italy’s decarbonisation goals, energy security measures and supply chain competitiveness. According to the company, its projects will contribute to Europe’s broader clean-tech ecosystem and the deployment of next-generation energy technologies.
Zelestra also noted progress in battery storage, pointing to an initial offtake agreement announced earlier this year for a 2GWh storage project in northern Italy.
“FER X is proving to be a powerful instrument to accelerate Italy’s clean energy transition and strengthen the country’s industrial competitiveness,” said Eliano Russo, Zelestra’s country manager in Italy. He added that securing consecutive auction wins “is a credit to the hard work that the Zelestra team in Italy has been delivering for many years to have the projects fully developed and ready to submit.”
