RWE has completed commissioning of its repowered Lasbek wind farm in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein following a one-year construction phase, the company said.
The project replaces six older turbines with four new units totalling 22.8 megawatts (MW), more than doubling the previous capacity of 10.8 MW. According to RWE, the upgraded installation can now generate enough electricity to supply about 18,000 households.
Local municipalities are expected to receive up to €124,000 annually from the wind farm’s operation, which the company said is roughly €100,000 more than before. RWE is donating rotor blades from one decommissioned turbine to the BladeReUse research project, where they will be repurposed for motorway noise barriers. Other components will be stored as spare parts for the company’s wider turbine fleet.
