Solar Ireland has expanded its cooperation with the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) after signing a Memorandum of Understanding at an industry event in Brussels, the organisation said on Thursday.
The industry body said it has worked with SSI since the initiative was founded, helping to shape transparent and credible sustainability tools for the European solar market. The renewed agreement is intended to support Ireland’s 2030 renewable energy objectives while promoting responsible growth across solar supply chains.
Solar Ireland said the partnership will strengthen alignment with European sustainability standards, building on ongoing work in Ireland on traceability, responsible sourcing and due-diligence practices.
Ronan Power, chief executive of Solar Ireland, said the industry had already made progress in improving supply-chain oversight. “Ireland’s solar industry is already taking meaningful steps to strengthen responsible supply chains,” he said. “This enhanced partnership allows us to take that work further, giving our members access to European standards, tools and training so we can continue to grow at pace while maintaining transparency, integrity and public trust.”
The collaboration will focus on providing guidance and training, supporting consistent due-diligence approaches and promoting responsible sourcing across the sector.
Rachel Owens, chief executive of the Solar Stewardship Initiative, welcomed the agreement. “We are delighted to strengthen our collaboration with Solar Ireland,” she said. “As Ireland accelerates its solar deployment, it is essential that responsible and sustainable practices remain at the heart of industry growth.”
