Infinity Power has begun construction of the 200MW Ras Ghareb Wind Project in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez, the company said, following the signing of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with POWERCHINA Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited.
The EPC agreement was signed during the China-Africa Economic, Trade & Cultural Forum, according to Infinity Power. The project is positioned as a flagship development under Egypt’s renewable energy programme and forms part of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s Energy Pillar within the Nexus Water-Food-Energy initiative.
Infinity Power said the wind farm will supply clean electricity to more than 300,000 homes and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 400,000 tonnes annually. The project also supports the company’s broader target to deploy 10GW of renewable energy capacity across Africa by 2030, enough to serve around 12 million households.
Co-founder and chairman Mohamed Ismail Mansour said the project demonstrates the viability of large-scale renewable developments on the continent. “We continue to make strong progress towards our 2030 capacity target, and this project marks another important milestone in that journey,” he said. “It shows that large-scale renewable projects in Africa are becoming a reality on the ground, demonstrating the continent’s ability to deliver projects of real value on time and to the highest standards.”
Nayer Fouad, co-founder and CEO of Infinity Power, said the project reflects the company’s ambition to deliver “transformative renewable infrastructure.” He added: “With HDEC as our partner, we’re combining technical excellence with long-term vision to deliver real impact for Egypt through this project.”
Mr. Liu Jiajin, vice president of POWERCHINA Huadong, said the development aligns with the company’s sustainability mission. “This 200MW wind farm embodies POWERCHINA Huadong’s mission to ‘Engineer Green Progress’ through sustainable infrastructure,” he said, adding that the partnership aims to support Egypt’s renewable energy goals.
Construction is now under way, with the project expected to strengthen Egypt’s clean energy supply and contribute to its long-term decarbonisation efforts.
