Acciona Energía has agreed to sell its majority stakes in two South African renewable energy assets with a combined capacity of 232 megawatts to Cennergi for an enterprise value of €255 million, the company said on Wednesday.
The sale covers the 138 MW Gouda wind farm and the 94 MWp Sishen solar PV plant, which began operations in 2015 and 2014. Acciona Energía holds a 55% interest in each project through Acciona Energía Internacional, while Royal Bafokeng Holdings, Soul City and Community Trust own the remaining 45%.
The transaction also includes Acciona Energía’s 80% stake in the company responsible for operating and maintaining both facilities. The deal is expected to close in 2026 and deliver a capital gain of about €65 million, according to the company. The assets are supported by €100 million in project financing.
Acciona Energía said the divestment is part of its ongoing asset rotation strategy launched in 2023. “The sale forms part of its asset rotation strategy announced in 2023, under which it has agreed to sell more than 1.4 GW of capacity in Costa Rica, Spain and Peru for over €2 billion,” the company said.
The Gouda and Sishen projects have been among the company’s longest-operating facilities outside Europe. The company said the rotation strategy is intended to free capital for new developments while maintaining a balanced international portfolio.
