FairWind has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Japanese turbine operations and maintenance provider Wind Energy Partners (WEP), marking the latest step in its expansion strategy in the Asia Pacific region.
The deal follows FairWind’s acquisition of Australian installation and maintenance company Cosmic Group in October. FairWind said the partnership will combine its onshore and offshore installation, pre-assembly and service capabilities with WEP’s expertise in preventative maintenance, blade work and repairs. “The partnership will combine its on- and offshore installation, pre-assembly and service expertise with WEP’s preventative maintenance, blade maintenance and repair experience,” the company said.
WEP, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Yokohama, operates seven additional bases across Japan. FairWind said the collaboration will give it access to WEP’s local network, infrastructure and regulatory experience, while WEP will benefit from FairWind’s global track record in turbine installation and maintenance.
Both companies said the partnership will enable improved service reliability, quicker response times and new technical solutions for Japan’s developing wind market.
Matt Crossan of FairWind said: “This partnership is a significant milestone for FairWind as we expand our footprint in Asia Pacific. Japan’s wind sector is still in its relative infancy when compared to Europe, but with strong government support and increasing investment driving expansion, there is considerable opportunity for FairWind and WEP to support the growing number of onshore and offshore turbines.”
He added that the companies share “a clear alignment” in their services and can leverage combined capabilities with WEP’s local knowledge to support Japan’s wind power industry.
WEP’s Kaoru Saito said: “FairWind’s proven track record and commitment to quality align perfectly with WEP’s mission. The alliance reflects the growing demand for specialised wind turbine maintenance services in Japan and we are excited to build on our current relationship to drive greater safety and reliability across our customers’ assets.”
FairWind, founded in 2008 and headquartered in Vejle, Denmark, said it now has more than 2,200 technicians operating in over 40 countries.
