Burges Salmon has been appointed to support the development of the 1.5-gigawatt Gwynt Glas floating wind farm in the Celtic Sea, a project expected to become one of the first commercial-scale floating offshore wind schemes in England and Wales, the firm said on Tuesday.
The appointment will be led by partner Julian Boswall and director Jen Ashwell from the Planning and Compulsory Purchase team, working alongside real estate partner Tom Perret. Burges Salmon said it will advise on all consenting and real estate matters for the project.
EDF Power Solutions and Ireland’s ESB are partnering to develop the wind farm, working with DP Energy’s Pembrokeshire-based team. The developers said the project has the potential to deliver up to 1.5GW of low-carbon electricity and reinforces the UK’s position as a leading market for floating offshore wind.
The partnership signed an Agreement for Lease with The Crown Estate after being named preferred bidder in June 2025.
Boswall said the scheme represents a significant national infrastructure investment. “We’re delighted to have been appointed by Gwynt Glas to support this nationally significant infrastructure project, which will bring immense environmental, social and economic benefits – supporting coastal communities and creating long-term opportunities for the region,” he said. “Our appointment reflects Burges Salmon’s strong track record in advising on complex and innovative infrastructure projects across our multi-disciplinary team, particularly within the offshore wind industry.”
Burges Salmon said its planning and real estate practices are market leaders in consenting and delivering nationally significant infrastructure projects, acting for public- and private-sector clients throughout the development consent process.
