Jacobs has been selected by Ireland’s grid operator, EirGrid, for a five-year Engineering Design, Planning and Project Management Framework to support the country’s renewable energy targets, the company said on Monday. The agreement includes an option to extend the contract by three years.
The framework will provide technical services to advance EirGrid’s “Shaping Our Electricity Future” strategy, which aims to transform the national transmission network and achieve at least 80% renewable electricity by 2030.
Under the contract, Jacobs will form an integrated design team to deliver planning, design, and project management for high-voltage transmission infrastructure, covering overground and underground assets using both AC and DC technologies.
“Reliable, efficient and sustainable electricity transmission systems are central to enabling Ireland’s energy transition,” said Richard Sanderson, executive vice president for Europe at Jacobs. “Our integrated design team approach will ensure projects are developed holistically – from early-stage planning and design to delivery – with a focus on system reliability, regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.”
The framework will also encompass environmental, health, and safety services to support the long-term resilience of Ireland’s grid. Jacobs already participates in several major infrastructure projects in Ireland, including Dublin and Cork’s BusConnects programme, the Galway to Portarlington Irish Rail upgrade, and strategic water planning initiatives with Uisce Éireann.
