Norwegian renewable energy developer Fenix Repower plans to construct two wind power plants in Ukraine’s Rivne region, regional administration head Oleksandr Koval said.
Local authorities and company representatives have discussed plans for between nine and twelve turbines per project, each with a capacity of 7 megawatts (MW), according to the regional administration.
“In the conditions of constant enemy attacks, the installation of wind power plants is one of the steps towards the energy independence of the region,” Koval said. “During the meeting, we agreed with the company representatives about our maximum assistance in the implementation of this project.”
The projects form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s renewable energy capacity as the country works to rebuild and secure its energy infrastructure amid the war.
Fenix Repower was recently selected by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) for support to expand investments in Ukraine’s renewable energy sector. The company’s planned developments in Rivne would add to a growing number of international renewable energy initiatives in western Ukraine, a region viewed as more secure for infrastructure investment.
