Shipbuilder Seatrium said on Tuesday that its dispute with shipping giant Maersk over a $475 million jack-up vessel contract has been referred to arbitration.
The arbitration notice was issued a day after Seatrium informed Maersk that the vessel would be delivered by January 30, 2026. The vessel is slated to support turbine installation for Equinor’s 810 MW Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project off the coast of New York.
Seatrium said the notice “asserts that disputes have arisen between the parties to the Contract, and that such disputes are to be referred to arbitration in London to be conducted in accordance with the current London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA) terms.”
The shipbuilder added it is “taking legal advice and will vigorously prosecute its position and defend any claims that may be brought by the Buyer.”
The dispute highlights challenges in the offshore wind supply chain as demand for specialised vessels grows.
