Polish renewable energy developer R.Power has launched the divestment process for a 200MW/400MWh ready-to-build battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Romania, as part of its broader strategy to rotate assets and diversify its portfolio across European markets.
The project, located near Bucharest — a key node in Romania’s energy infrastructure — is designed to provide grid flexibility and support the country’s transition to a low-carbon energy system.
“The sale is part of our strategy of asset rotation and portfolio diversification across different geographies,” R.Power said in a statement on Monday.
The company is steadily increasing its presence in Romania, backed by a dedicated office in Bucharest. It is preparing to energise its first Romanian solar power projects — Stalpu, Suseni, Dudesti and Punghina — and plans to begin construction soon on the 254MWh Scornicesti battery storage facility.
R.Power said Romania will become its third market with operational assets, following Poland and Portugal. The firm is also developing both standalone energy storage systems and hybrid configurations that combine batteries with solar farms.
“Energy storage is central to our growth model,” the company stated, noting that storage assets now represent more than half of its 30GW-plus development pipeline across six European countries.
Over the coming years, R.Power aims to scale its integrated capacity in Romania to the multi-gigawatt range, describing the country as a key contributor to the energy transition in Central and Eastern Europe.
The company did not disclose the expected timeline for the divestment or identify potential buyers.
