Offshore services provider DeepOcean has entered into a charter agreement for the multipurpose support vessel Glomar Supporter to strengthen its survey, inspection, maintenance, and repair operations for offshore wind and oil and gas clients, the company said on Tuesday.
The Glomar Supporter will join DeepOcean’s fleet in January, with initial deployments planned in European waters.
“We already have a large fleet of offshore vessels, but we have actively been looking for smaller vessels that can provide an even more cost-effective offering, particularly in the offshore renewables space,” said Øyvind Mikaelsen, DeepOcean chief executive. “We decided to seize the opportunity when we heard that the Glomar Supporter became available.”
The vessel is equipped with a main stern A-frame for deploying and towing multiple sensor types, including seismic equipment. It also features various survey sensors and technologies such as multibeam echo sounders.
Additionally, the Glomar Supporter has a dedicated launch area for geotechnical equipment and a mezzanine deck configured for a launch and recovery system suitable for work-class remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations, DeepOcean said.
The new charter is expected to bolster DeepOcean’s capabilities in delivering cost-effective, versatile support services as demand grows in offshore renewable energy and oil and gas sectors.
