Wood Thilsted (WT) has made the decision to deploy two specialized engineers to South Korea in order to provide support for the potential development of approximately 10 fixed and floating offshore wind farms.
Starting from April 2023, Jack Cran and Luke Graydon will be working alongside Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) in South Korea. Jack will contribute his expertise in Geotechnical Engineering, while Luke will offer support in Floating Foundation Engineering. Both engineers will receive assistance from WT's teams in Taiwan and Europe.
Hannah Abend, the Director of Growth at Wood Thilsted, expressed the company's interest in aiding the advancement of offshore wind engineering capabilities in South Korea. She stated, “Korea has ambitious plans for the offshore wind industry, and Wood Thilsted aims to make early investments to facilitate the development of local expertise.”
She further explained, “The initial step in this strategy involves stationing key WT team members in South Korea to collaborate with our partners on the country's exciting offshore wind projects, as well as to identify and recruit future talent.”
Johan Hodel Meincke, the regional lead for APAC at Wood Thilsted, highlighted the company's success in establishing strong partnerships in Taiwan. These partnerships have enabled them to effectively utilize local talent and supply chains, giving WT a unique advantage over other consulting firms. The company now intends to replicate this model in South Korea, benefiting local communities and contributing to the economy.
