London-based renewable energy developer Rivington Energy has acquired a 139-megawatt (MW) solar and battery energy storage portfolio from Gridserve, further expanding its presence in the UK’s clean energy sector.
The transaction includes two ready-to-build (RTB) sites with capacities of 54MW and 44MW, as well as a third 41MW project currently in the pre-RTB stage. The assets are located in Scunthorpe, Doncaster and Hartlepool, the company said in a statement.
Construction will begin this month on the 54MW solar farm in Scunthorpe, which will also include 72 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery energy storage. The site is expected to be operational by September 2026.
Once fully energised, the three projects are expected to collectively deliver up to 160MWh of battery storage capacity and supply electricity to both the grid and industrial users.
Rivington Energy has developed more than 1.25 gigawatts (GW) of consented renewable energy projects since 2021, and has been involved in the delivery of several hundred megawatts of operational assets over the past decade.
“Our team are passionate about pioneering innovative energy solutions to support the transition to net zero,” said Rivington Energy Executive Director Andrew Newman. “We are delighted to have collaborated closely with our parent company, Federated Hermes Limited, to acquire these projects, and we are excited to embark upon their construction.”
The acquisition aligns with Rivington’s strategy to accelerate the deployment of co-located solar and battery storage assets, as the UK continues to expand its renewable energy capacity in line with national net-zero targets.
