Danish materials technology company Y-MatTec has identified the Port of Montrose on Scotland’s east coast as its preferred site for a new grout production facility, the company said on Thursday.
The planned facility would supply Y-MatTec’s DNV type-approved structural grouts, used primarily in offshore wind turbine foundations, to customers across the UK.
The Port of Montrose, located in Angus, has been positioning itself as a logistics and operations hub for renewable energy developments in the North Sea. Y-MatTec said the location aligns with its strategy to expand its presence in the UK offshore wind supply chain.
“Announcing Port of Montrose as our preferred location reflects Y-MatTec’s strong intent to support the UK’s offshore wind sector with high-performance, DNV type-approved materials,” said Elo Yde, CEO of Y-MatTec. “Localising production in Scotland will offer real benefits in terms of cost, quality, and logistics.”
The company credited Scottish Development International (SDI), the Scottish Government’s international trade and investment agency, as playing a key role in facilitating its interest in the UK market.
Tom Hutchison, CEO of Montrose Port Authority, said the announcement highlights the port’s growing role in supporting renewable energy infrastructure.
“Being selected as Y-MatTec’s preferred location underlines our growing role in the offshore wind supply chain and our commitment to enabling the UK’s energy transition,” Hutchison said.
Y-MatTec has not yet confirmed a timeline for the facility’s development.
