German renewable energy developer PNE, together with partner e.disnatur, plans to repower the Seelow wind farm in Märkisch-Oderland, replacing older turbines with fewer, higher-capacity units, the companies said on Tuesday.
The existing site, located in eastern Germany, currently operates nine turbines that have been in service for more than two decades. Under the repowering plan, up to six modern turbines will be installed, with the goal of more than doubling the wind farm’s total output while reducing the overall number of turbines.
“The aim is to increase clean energy production while using fewer turbines and reducing the physical footprint,” the partners said in a joint statement.
Contracts with local landowners have already been signed, enabling the project to move into the detailed planning phase and begin further engagement with local authorities and stakeholders.
The companies did not specify a timeline for construction or commissioning.
Repowering is an increasingly common approach in Germany as developers seek to upgrade ageing wind assets and improve efficiency without expanding land use.
