German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex (NDXG.DE) has signed its first order in Spain for its N175/6.X turbine model, securing a deal with Abei Energy for the 50-megawatt Avellanosa wind farm in the Castile and Leon region.
Under the agreement, independent power producer Abei Energy has ordered eight units of the N175/6.X turbine for installation northwest of Burgos. Construction is scheduled to begin in late summer 2026, with commissioning planned for early 2027.
The turbines will be mounted on tubular steel towers with a hub height of 119 metres. In addition to supplying the turbines, Nordex will provide long-term maintenance through a 20-year Premium Service contract.
“We are very pleased with the trust placed in us by Abei Energy and to be installing the N175/6.X in Spain for the first time with this project,” said Francisco Cejudo, director of sales for Spain at Nordex. “The turbine type is ideal for the site conditions in Spain.”
Luis Barrado, global EPC managing director at Abei Energy, described the agreement as a strategic milestone for the company’s growth in Spain. “This agreement represents a key step toward achieving Abei’s expansion goals of developing, building, and operating its own assets in the Spanish wind energy market and reinforces its commitment to the energy transition and decarbonisation,” he said.
Nordex said the N175/6.X turbine is designed for medium- to low-wind sites and aims to maximise energy output under variable conditions. The company expects the model to become a core technology for future Spanish projects, subject to permitting conditions.
The Avellanosa project contributes to broader efforts by Spain to increase renewable energy capacity as part of its national climate and energy targets.
