German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon has introduced its latest onshore wind model, the E-175 EP5 E2, to the UK market, highlighting efficiency gains and logistical improvements aimed at meeting local infrastructure needs.
Unveiled at an event in Edinburgh, the new turbine features a nominal power output of 7 megawatts and a 175-metre rotor diameter. Enercon said the model delivers up to 20% lower levelised cost of energy (LCOE) and generates 60% more annual revenue per unit compared to previous-generation machines.
Designed with the UK market in mind, the E-175 EP5 E2 includes tower height options of up to 175 metres and a split-generator design to ease transportation constraints. The turbine also incorporates updated logistics and installation methods adapted to British infrastructure.
“It’s not just about more power, it’s about smarter integration, better logistics, and real value for our customers,” said Moritz Rodenhausen, head of product management at Enercon.
“With the E-175 EP5 E2, we’re offering a solution that’s not only powerful but also practical and future-ready,” added Rachel Bowes, head of sales for Great Britain.
The company described the launch as a key step in its strategic re-engagement with the UK market. Johan Terpstra, president of Enercon’s western Europe region and UK managing director, said: “We’ve made real progress, and we’re proud to say: Enercon is back to the future.”
The introduction of the new model comes as the UK continues efforts to expand its onshore wind capacity to meet net-zero targets and enhance domestic energy security.
